I heard him Say It's setup for a billion users at the moment. and he thinks big so I can't see it being just for Americans it needs to be global.

I am American. Just not in the US.
As are people from Colombia. And Manitoba.
Yeah, and some Columbians are from Ohio, too. At some point common usage is legit. No other country has America in the name, so it's good shorthand.
This is true, though at the risk of being pedantic I meant I'm a United States citizen, though living outside the US, and thus lacking a US mobile number that would allow me to pre-register at FrankSpeech.
They probably got a lot of immediate feedback on this, so they've since added this note to the signup page:
