The 23rd Amendment gives DC 3 electoral votes, even though it has no senators or reps. In giving DC statehood, they get 2 senators, and one rep. Not really a great deal when you consider that admitting, say... Puerto Rico, would give them not only 2 senators, but probably at least 3 reps, and 5 EVs in addition to the ones from DC, which are already safe blue anyways.
Bearing this in mind, why are they pushing for statehood for DC specifically? If it was just about padding their numbers, and consolidating power, then why not go for PR, or even Guam?
I have never had much of an opinion one way or another on the Corporation of the United States theory, but the above makes me think maybe there is something to it.
If they’re a state then they can write themselves checks in the name of anything. Like California always being on fire and never fixing it but getting emergency money or lightfoot using her Covid relief to close a gap she created with attempting to defund the police.
I don’t think it has anything to do with senators or electoral votes. There’s a reason why the federal government has a separate location to govern our country from. Taking that away would destroy the fabric of America completely. How do you have a federal government that leads a country, that’s now actually part of that country in its own state. There’s a reason why the federal government is separate from each and every other state. It’s supposed to keep check and balance, but not much of that even exist anymore
The democrats wrote the bill in a way to skirt around that issue. Washington DC is not going to be dissolved, instead it will shrink in land size to only a handful of essential federal buildings, while the remainder of DC will be converted into a new state. To technically Washington DC will still exist outside of any state borders. It's bullshit, but that's what they are trying.
Because Biden is only president of DC which is not part of the US. They want to make it part of the US to try and validate the stolen election.
I think it's going to trigger one of the DOD manual markers.
I think has something to do with keeping them out of prison.
You're missing a key detail in number of electoral votes. Under the current Constitution, DC can have as many electoral votes as it would have if it were a state, BUT it can not have more electoral votes than any other state. So because Alaska and Wyoming only have 3 electoral votes (due to their smaller populations) which btw is the minimum any state can have, DC is limited to 3 electoral votes.
If DC became a state, its population would justify giving it more than 3 electoral votes.
I believe it interferes with the military exercising the Law of War definition of occupation by a foreign power if DC were to be declared a state.
The swamp wants to stop the option of military takeover and martial law being executed. I will try to source from DoD LoW.
