It has no bearing on whether or not a client can send data. it's not required for that, at all. You can and do send data all the time without SSMS. It's purely a tool for managing and interacting with database instances which A) yes could mean data manipulation via queries or B) performing maintenance operations or C) view-only.
SQL Server Management Studio. SSMS. It is an admin tool for SQL Server databases. When you use it, you can do anything you want to the data contained in the databases.
SMSS: allows two servers to send data via background processes to any destination.
For normies: SMSS is a program installed on Windows computers that allow data to be sent anywhere without it being viable to the user.
What does "being viable" mean?? Or was it being "visible"?
Pede meant visible

Oops. Always get SSMS part wrong.
The point is that the tool is something that is easily added in for data transfer, and is highly transparent to a user operating the OS.
It can be explained to normies easily enough.
I apologize for getting the facts wrong tho.
