Wow just got kicked out of H and M for refusing to wear a mask at the cash register when I was rung up. Literally said if you let me pay I will be gone before you GET THE MANAGER HERE.
I told them I was not able as per my MD. Told them I was being discriminated against and the Aned w Disabilty act requires reasonable accommodations. And the manager refused to give me his last name. Then some obese Karen in the next aisle told me she was educating me that this was a private business and I was ignorant. I said the Americans w disability act says differently.
They literally had me in there five minutes more than if they just checked me out.
How can we wake people up?! It’s incidents like this that reduce my hopefulness.

Well, if it ends here, nothing will change. The only way to initiate change is to hit them where it hurts (pocketbook) and follow thru with protecting your rights (lawsuit). Otherwise, they can continue saying they don't care and ignore the law for you and everyone else.
Good job and keep up the good work. Anyone around that witnessed it will think about it. A friend was arrested back in January in Wisconsin for not wearing a mask/trespassing. She is a nurse and mother. It was very upsetting at the time. She is stronger for it and red pulled many. Being a pioneer isn’t easy but it’s noble!
File a complaint and hire a lawyer.

When this happens to me, I write a letter to the corporate legal department citing the facts, the federal Civil Rights Act (religious discrimination) and ADA, and the state's anti-discrimination laws.
If nothing else, it wastes somebody's time, and maybe comes back on the store. I be sure to tell them that unless this is addressed me and my family will never shop at their chain again, anywhere.
Arguing does no good in changing minds in the moment, because these Branch Covidians are too vested in their mask cult. But it may plant some seeds, perhaps not in the head of who you're interacting with, but maybe in those who are not directly participating.
Confrontation is withering, though -- eventually these bastards will become gun shy, especially if they see that the time and money lost is not worth it. I'm pretty sure that the big boxes (e.g., Costco) are getting PPP funds for maintaining their policies, however. So they won't care unless lots of folks get turned away.
An effective technique is to submit a notarized Notice by Affidavit. This is a big topic that I am just starting to explore. David Jose and Josh Barnett (search Utube) have used this in Arizona to get the vote audit started, and are supporting the patriots in Windham, NH to get their's going. When people in AZ started copying Notices to the Governor about stores restricting their rights due to his mask mandate, he lifted it.
The Notices may or may not have made the difference in this instance, but they do carry a huge threat for government officials: Anytime you put evidence of a felony, or treason into the hands of a government actor, and he fails to act on it, he becomes a party to that felony or treason, and hence an accomplice. These people have accepted a trust indenture called the Constitution, and their felonious act consists of restricting our rights, taking away our liberties, and forcing us to follow mandates.
The Notices are forceful reminders that these officials work for us. They are our servants, and swore an oath to protect our rights. They know this, which is why none of the "mandates" are backed by statute, but are being enforced by store policy. But a store policy cannot violate the law, which all of the masking ones do. We need to connect this violation back to our city and state servants, and put the fear of the law and the People (which is the same thing) into them.
You bet, WWG1WGA. It's always upsetting to be confronted, but it gets easier. It's important (but difficult) not to take it personally. We are right; they are dead wrong (and their masks are seeing to that!). COVID fatigue is working in our favor, too.
Here in locked down Michigan, I'm starting a "resistance cell" that is going to run with the Notice by Affidavit process I alluded to in my previous post. Standing up is easier if you are not alone.

I know this must have been upsetting and I'm sorry you went through it, but I do think starting with a foundation of arguing can be counter productive if you're looking to change hearts and minds (and not just be able to get what you came in for). I'd suggest next time trying a big smile, a humble tone, and something like, "I didn't realize my money was no good here, I'm going to happily take it and go where I am welcome and I'll pray v mighty against this spirit of fear! Bless you!" Don't let it and patronizing, when you say it, pray it so hard that God blesses them with common sense and open eyes right then. My philosophy is start with Jesus, and make sure no one looking on could think YOU were the one being on the wrong side of polite.
