Ireland - our government were giving out about young people socialising outside over the weekend, started saying our police might cordon off streets, and that “local lockdowns” might be reinstated.
Still 2k fine for leaving the country without a “reasonable excuse”. Pubs still shut. For over a year. It’s not so much the alcohol - it’s the fact they’re social hubs, especially down the country.
I formed text groups here in CA at the height of this, to spread information. Banned from Twitter and regularly suspended from FB so a big ole bunch of us joined these text groups that can't be shut down.
I don't have insider info or anything. I just don't believe any of these lockdowns have actually been for covid so hearing how Australia and Japan are both extending theirs made me post that. Could just be heavy precautions for the Olympics, I guess.
Japan has had no lockdowns at all. They have been unable to pass new laws to date.
There have been a few ‘states of emergency’ declared by the Tokyo governor. These are administrative and non-binding, and only apply to licensed businesses who opt in to the incentive scheme.
All measures to date have been ‘voluntary’ — bribes from the federal or metropolitan government incentivise businesses to comply.
Japan is also preparing for something right now.

Japan has more freedom than most of us. Who would have thought that after ww2
I wish our immigration laws were as strict as Japan
New Caledonia, island to the east of Australia, is on lock down too.
