Massive, massive, head slapping contradictions that blacken the sky they are so egregious. Unlike peeps above I really read the bible with an open mind. I concluded that it is anthropomorphic to the absolute extreme, he is after all an invisible man in the sky.
I concluded that Jehovah is a vengeful, spiteful and wholly unjust god who would judge a man on a comparatively, infinitely small, minuscule wedge of time when compared to eternal damnation. I concluded that he demands absolute obedience to the point of going slasher on your own son to prove your loyalty like something out of a bad gangster flick.
He demands a blood sacrifice from his own son (anthropomorphism) when he is omnipotent and could just give everyone icecreams and chill the fuck out instead. He is like a psychopath with an ant farm, shitting the place up with massive floods and famines because people succumb to human nature, the very nature that he, in his vision, gave us. This we are supposed to square with God is love.
I have a lot more to say on this, but my sweet girlfriend is up now, maybe I will post a series and get more down votes than I have ever had.
I will say that, when viewed from an eastern mysticism or Buddhist slant, I found Jesus' words very interesting. It's like he was trying and failing to teach metaphysical concepts to cavemen and this is where I perceived value in this book although not if viewed through the Christian para-dime.
I actually discussed this with a Roman Catholic priest. I am an Eastern rite Greek Catholic. This priest said I committed blasphemy when I mentioned fear of the Lord. I told him I disagree. Roman Catholics think of Jesus only as the Good Shepherd. We in the eastern rite agree but also see The Father as Almighty, All Powerful, the Holy Spirit as inspiration. Fear of the Lord is 1 of the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit....so how is that blasphemy?
Fear of the Lord is awe, reverence, and respect for God. It downplays human self-sufficiency and acknowledges that everything comes from God. Consequently, those who “Fear the Lord” gladly offer their praise, worship, and adoration to God alone
In the Old Testament, God commended people of faith, not people who kept the Law. No where will you find God extolling anyone for keeping the Law. No one can keep all of God's laws, except God himself.
Why was David a man after God's own heart? He was guilty of murder and adultery. The 10 commandments would have disqualified David completely - breaking one means breaking them all.
I fear The Father. I fear to disappoint. No different than I fear to disappoint my parents. Not scared of the boogeyman kinda fear. It’s a respect thing. God fearing Christian. ?

Fucken wheeeeeeeeeeeee.
You make God sound like mafia protection scam.
My faith is based on reading the New Testament with an open mind and life experience.
My fellowship with Jesus Christ is based on love and respect.
Honest faith does not require a "carrot or the stick" mentality.

FEAR NOTHING. EVER.

Fear means reverence not scared.
We are to approach the throne of God with Boldness because he is light and love and there is no darkness in him at all.
The ability, and probably a very good reason.
