Mine got out in 1905 right when things were starting to heat up and become unstable. My grandfather always told us never to give up our guns. He said the people gave up their guns and had no way to defend themselves when things went bad. Lots of people died and they had family that were left behind. We are pretty sure none of them survived. Sadly, it appears that history is repeating itself.
Looking better all the time. Those I have talked to that immigrated after an extended visit, all said it was better over there than here. My family did not want to leave Russia - but were forced to by political circumstances. We now may be looking at the situation in reverse. Russia has been trying to insulate itself against what is coming. If I was younger, I would be seriously considering it. I do not have the time to start over and relocate. That is better left to the young that have the physical strength to do it. My relatives made the decision to give the next generation a fighting chance for survival in a new place rather than fight where they were and take the chance of being annihilated. Those that stayed behind were either killed by the Communists, the Germans, or ended up in gulags. All traces of my relatives in the communities surrounding Saratov are gone. Only we are left to tell their stories. Sad but true. Now, many of us may be faced with the same decisions. May we choose wisely.
Same situation here, great grandparents were Carpatho-Rusyn, moved just before the revolution.

Just announced today that they’re resuming flights from the US. C’mon over! :-)
