If you can't explain to a child how Hitler was evil, you don't know what really happened in WWII.
As Patton said, we went after the wrong target first.
WWI was also a major screwup on all accounts. What was the war really about? Did Germany actually lose?
Who was Napoleon, really, and how did they get him in the end?
What was the secret behind Great Britain's rise to power on the world stage? I was told it was the defeat of the Spanish Armada, as if English trees and tactics are really better than the continent's.
If you can't explain the evil of the Nazi regime, you have other problems.
The alliance with Comunist Russia was an alliance of convenience (enemy of my enemy, etc.). WW2 Russia was NOT the same Russia the US relied on in the Civil War.
Civil war? Revolutionary war. Russia fresh off war blockaded the English in port . That allowed time for France to make it here first.

Who was the bad guy during the U2 incident?
Why did we "lose" the Korean war, and Vietnam?
History is written by the victor.
What did we leave out from the whole Hitler episode that the victors don't want us to know about? Why?
All the Nazi scientists brought in from Germany to work for US companies, agencies, etc. Think DARPA. When was it formed?
The large number of Nazis that escaped to different countries, especially Argentina and the US.
Much of their tech and research confiscated by the US military and Gov't.
The many alliances the Germans had with other countries.
Did you know about its icebreaker that went south...way south?
A whole lot more that we don't know about and I've forgotten over the years.
