The Civil War was about unfair taxes up to 40% of some southern states. It was only partially about slavery. Lincoln's solution was to take the guns away from those trying to defend against unfair taxation. There is more but even at its worse the treatment Blacks got was better here than Slaves were treated in South America caribbean( many dying within 7 years), Africa (cannibalzed sex slaved women), middle east ( castrated men, high percentage died crossing sahara) .
