i have a feeling it became a thing for natives to drop their kids off at church doorsteps hoping their children would get a better life. and due to the times and the mortality rates, some of those kids died and were buried. I don't think it was nefarious at all, and the timing of these "finds" are dubious at best. They're trying to give canada the same "original sin" stigma they are trying to give the US
