I don't know about you but I need to read something other than all the facts on this site. Too much winning.
spez: thanks guys for the great suggestions, I'm saving this post. sounds like I'll start with State of Fear.

Fiction is too mundane for me now.
I can't imagine a better movie than the Great Awakening. There's always a hidden backstory scene too, if you get bored with the present.
State of Fear by Michael Crichton
Omg. I was literally coming here to post this. And after that, really anything by Michael Crichton.
I'm convinced the Cabal assassinated both Crichton and Clancy.
I agree. I think he pushed it “too far” in their eyes with State of Fear. And Prey and Micro were interesting too, esp for me learning about nanotech for the first time.
... and Hemingway.
The Cuckoo's Egg Cliff Stoll
I couldn’t put that book down. I can’t do fiction but this one felt just as exciting.
Clancey's Rainbow Six is a classic and has so many similarities to our current situation.
The Quiller Memorandum and subsequent novels. They made a movie out of it but still really good reads. Up against neonazis, just like we are.
Read Brad Thor. He has an awesome character named Scot Harvath.
Daemon, then Freedom by Daniel Suarez; not exactly a spy novel, but if you're here you'll appreciate it.
