Hear me out here. They've been cheating this way for decades now. They happened to get caught bigly this time, but they've been doing it everywhere for decades now. So WHY are they suddenly so freaked out about a few new laws? That's never stopped them before. Yeah it'll make it slightly harder in some states, but unless we have annual audits, it's not like we could catch every single vote they cheat.
Look at Texas and Georgia for example. They made such a big deal about Georgia's new laws that it's become an ongoing national headline. All they did to my knowledge is ban mobile registration and voting trucks, enact stricter hours, and a few other things. Without an audit every year, how is this going to prevent them from running ballots through a dozen times, dumping in millions of fake photocopied ballots till they get their way, swapping votes by the hundreds of thousands/millions, etc.
In Texas, roughly a third of the state house is planning on fleeing to DC and risking being arrested and charged with various crimes, something which both Abbot and the Texas speaker of the house have said they intend to do if they try to pull this crap, in an effort to prevent very similar laws from passing in Texas.
So my question is, WHY? Why go to such lengths to prevent a few laws that just make it slightly harder to cheat?
Well apparently this isn't the first time they've done this. The last time was in the early 2000's when Texas was still in the process of turning fully red. They fled to New Mexico to stop some other bill from passing. This time though, apparently the stakes are higher so they're fleeing to DC, not Washington state, so as to be under the jurisdiction of the capital police in order to try and prevent extradition.
I honestly have no idea how well this is going to work out for them, but it's showing how desperate they're getting. Abbot has cut off their paycheck till they start cooperating and now they're fleeing to a unique police district in order to avoid arrest and extradition back to Texas, basically giving the middle finger to everyone in the state.
On the plus side, apparently the last time they pulled this crap resulted in the GOP landslides where they got a super majority in both houses, so I'd imagine with everything else going on something similar is likely to happen even with cheating going on. After all there's that one border county that was super corrupt that just had a fair election, resulting in a GOP mayor for the first time in a hundred years. So it's looking like things are being cleaned up, even if it's just in the background.
Oh and let's not forget they literally have no choice but to eventually show up to a special session for the redistricting since the census came out. That's another big plus on the GOP since they have full control and can gerrymander the ever loving crap out of everything so as to pack and crack all the blue districts to maximize GOP seats. Considering the current corrupt state of things, I'd imagine a lot of packing is going to occur in Austin and DFW with cracking around Houston, San Antonio, and El Paso.
This is going to be very interesting. Did you see yesterday that Trump gave Abbott "complete and total support?"
Interesting about the Capitol Police being why they may go to Washington, DC. Not sure how this is all going to play out but it probably won't end well for these rogue legislators!
Yup, I've been on the fence about Abbot for a while. I really liked the idea of governor Allen West, but if Trumps throwing his weight behind Abbot I suppose it's best to see how he handles this mess before making a decision.
And agreed. Everything seems to be falling apart for them piece by piece. Literally nothing is going their way anymore. It's like Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd or Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. Every time they try to do something it backfires 10 fold on them.
holy cow ... they did it

Welp, time to see if Abbot and the Texas GOP have the balls to go through with threats and drag them back to Austin in handcuffs.
