There are studies that show chemical sunscreen actually causes cancer. Mineral sunblocks seem to be better but I just keep my kids in during the hottest most direct sun and send them out mornings and late afternoons.
We survived for untold millenia without it. Then comes Rockefeller "Medicine," "Rockefeller Science," and Rockefeller Public "Education" and all of a sudden, it's practically required by it's medical and scientific "experts?" By the man who gave us cheap and abundant, yet HIGHLY TOXIC petroleum products and advocated for their uses in everything from fuel to food. Gee...I wonder why?
Why do you want to tan? I'm not ashamed of being a white person. I have never in my life stretched out in the sun just to get a tan and fail to see the point of it. I stay out of the sun as much as I can, except when I have to mow the grass. I do get darker, but I don't work at it or obsess over it. I never put on any kind of sunblock. If you burn too easily, that's a big hint to stay out of the sun as much as you can.
I guess you have to use your brain and decide for yourself. If tanning is worth getting skin cancer then go for it, survival of the fittest as far as I'm concerned.

Were built to handle the sun and vitamin d production actually acts as a sunblock. Blocking the absorption of vitamin d is horrible

I've never trusted sun screen but how do you avoid the awful sunburns when you want to tan? Should you put anything at all on your skin?

Why do you need to tan?
Call it porcelain.
Cancer patients are vit d deficient. Makes one wonder why they want us staying out of the sun or slathering on chemicals if we do.
