What part is the myth? If the population today is much higher than it was last decade, which is much higher than it was the decade before... Eventually that hits critical mass. Unless you're saying that you don't believe the numbers. How many people do you think are alive on Earth today.
First world countries are having less and less kids. Most are barely meeting replacement numbers. Places like Japan and Germany actually have negative replacement birth rates. The countries with massive birth rates are third world countries where it is more common for children to die. As these countries reach second world status, their population will stabilize because their society is safer and more children will reach adulthood. If a country cannot support itself, population culls naturally. This is why Americans and other well meaning nations should never donate to places like Africa. It artificially props them up for a time, their birth rates explode because food is suddenly available, and after the handouts are used up there is famine and death as these countries fail to support their exploding numbers. It is an endless cycle.
If we truly want these places to become better we need leave them alone that includes stopping immigration so that the best and brightest people stay in their own country so they can improve their society. Immigration is just another form of resource stripping first world countries do to impoverished nations.

I’ve e heard people say the state of Texas alone could give every person...man, woman, child a 1-2 acre lot of ground, in the entire planet.
Pretty sure there’s enough room on this globe for a few billion.
That's pretty cool. Learned something new today
