Science would be so easy if we had a machine for detecting false information. Think: You could ask it if, say, String Theory was on the right scientific path. it would tell you immediately and you could change your research strategy as a result.
The main issue, of course, is that people claim to be suppressing false information when what they often mean is they are suppressing information someone does not want you to know.
