It's certainly possible. I would think the statute of limitations on how long he needs to push the vax would run out after leaving office. Here's my theories:
He is genuinely in favor of the vaccine. I know Ivanka got the jab and probably other members of the family as well.
He mentions it on purpose because he knows how the audience is going to react. Not sure what this accomplishes.
He knows something we don't.
There are a lot of people who believe in the shot. Right or wrong, they do. I've done enough research to comfortably say that I do not believe in the shot. At this point I block out anything Trump says related to the vax because it's a non issue for me. For whatever reason, he's obviously not letting it go. We need to move on from it.
This goes to the very heart of whether or not Trump can be trusted. I trust God. Trump, even though I agree with him on many things, is just a man.
I will let this go when I understand WHY he actively encouraged millions to inject themselves with what appears to be a deadly poison. Because if he can do this, it makes me question his other motives.
As a free-thinking human, I have only myself to blame if I make a decision that turns out to be bad. As you say, Trump is just a man. People who do as he says without thinking for themselves have themselves to blame if something goes wrong. Dwell on it if you must, I have to spend my energy elsewhere.
I was just sitting here thinking this morning that perhaps he knows his base is smart enough not to take it and he's hoping that if he says to take it the people who hate him will not trust it. Therefore, he thinks it's helping both sides.
Look at all the concern/angst/discussion/gnashing of teeth we are going through and now think about what our enemies are going through at this moment. They, I believe, were fully ready to attack Trump. Now their "useful idiots" are tuning in to the rally to see if Trump really said it. I don't know, just musing.
Look at what happened to Hydroxchloroquine and early treatment when the President just mentioned it.
Governors issued executive orders to punish doctors that try to use it, and so on.
It is fantasy to think that if Trump had opposed the vaccine that Americans would have listened. It isn't that simple.
I believe Q/Q+ have carefully mapped out a way through this, and being positive about the vaccine is part of that.
Also, Trump does not believe that kids should be vaccinated.
Trump claimed during an interview with Sean Hannity on Wednesday that school-age children should not be inoculated against the deadly virus. “Now we have to get back and the schools have to get open—and frankly, we’re lucky we have the vaccine. But the vaccine on very young people is something that you gotta really stop,” Trump inexplicably said. “You have to get back to running your country—I mean, I don’t see reasons—and I am a big believer in what we did with the vaccine. It’s incredible what we did. You see the results. But to have every school child, where it’s 99.99%, they just don’t—you know, they’re just not affected or affected badly. Having to receive a vaccine I think is something that you should start thinking about, because I think it’s unnecessary.”

This is not something you just move on from.

Good point . We are, indeed responsible for making such decisions.

Just wishful thinking but...

That was my thought too. Feels like it was part of a deal to me. Trump in never this tone deaf…
He's just a man, yes, but also yes, never this tone deaf. Ever.
I don't think so.
