I think you give Hollywood too much credit.
Most of what they are producing is garbage.
Whenever they do try to promote some "message", they end up falling on their face and the movie fails. People get sick and tired of the 'agenda', so everyone just tunes it out.
The best, most innovative movies these days are NOT coming from Hollywood. The best stories are not coming from Hollywood.

Dune is a Novel series and quite the epic one at that.
1984 is a Novel
Hunger Games is a Novel
Animal Farm is a Novel
Dune is a great novel. I didn't like the rest of the series, but the first novel is a classic.
The movie Dune SUCKED!!! It was one of the poorest made movies I've ever had the displeasure of watching. It stunk.
The old movie? Awe I liked the movie, as well as the mini series.
