I recall watching an interview, though I can’t locate it, where a reporter visited the Amish at a get together in fall (I think) of 2020. One said something to the extent of ‘what pandemic, we don’t have TV.’ When asked about if they were comfortable with him getting close. They were so nice. I’ve never wanted to be Amish more in my life.
It looks like it's doing pretty well. I hope they can get justice because this is outrageous. This is financial terrorism. They're trying to put them out of business.
I have amish communities all around me. Govt keeps picking on them. We always come together to help them financially, legally, doctor visits, any way we could.
A few years ago we had severe flooding and it was the amish who came door to door offering to help. You'd see them fixing people's roofs, siding, draining flood waters, cleanups, all its their faith.
As for their food always the cleanest, no chemicals or additives, many offer tours to their processes of making cheese, canning, preserving meats so you can see for yourself. We have an amish restaurant I love. Plain, simple foods, always delicious, and plates LOADED with food. Being filled (and burping afterwards) is a big compliment to them.
One time my husband's truck broke down so he drifted into a parking lot. An amish buggy pulled in next to us. When I told the Amish kid right now I wish I had a horse and buggy he stopped everything and rode us home.
People pick on them, honk horns when passing a buggy to scare the horse, harrass girls at the stores knowing they dont fight back.
My spouse pede bought an amish cookbook when we still ate crud and I thought, ugh. Now it’s my favorite cook book. Delicious and extraordinarily simple recipes. A blessing to have now. Oh what a fool I’ve been.

Series of short stories exemplifying regulatory capture and how we could all be eating healthier food if it weren't for our beloved government acting in the interests of the industrial supply chain.
The amish are great people. Their way of life is only possible though, in America.
Why?
Their non-amish neighbors have always left them be.
So, this article bothers me. I can see why they would be targeted. They are 100% self sufficient when left alone.
Some of the commenters have mentioned them reaching out to use their neighbor's modern technology and hosputals in times of crisis and maybe today that is more common, but.
Spent 10 years in Hutchinson Kansas and between hutch and Wichita is a town called Yoder. Tons of amish. You slow down and are on high alert for the carriages.
Many mennonites in the area as well. People often confuse the two.
Anyway, ive know a few amish and they are amazing people.
Their way of life is not possible anywhere on planet earth, except america.
That is truth and also one of the best ways to describe american exceptionalism.
Sad, if even they are now under attack.
Btw, if ever in yoder, there is an amish bakery there. Best cinnamon rolls in the world. Trust me.
Mmmm that sounds delicious.... thank you for telling your experience as well.
You mentioned twice “ Their way of life is not possible anywhere on planet earth, except america.” I was hoping to get you to expound on that statement some. I’m not familiar enough either lifestyles. Basic premise seemed to be self sufficient non technological religious types. But the government hassles those who try to live off the grid. How have the Amish managed to stay insulated from government overreach. I really should look into their lifestyle more.
Notice the Amish aren't sick....

Amish reached “heard immunity already “ (no vaccine) https://www.fox29.com/news/amish-community-in-lancaster-county-reaches-herd-immunity-from-covid-19-medical-center-says
Yup! Lived among the Amish for many years. No covid anywhere...no masks, no distancing, no pumped up bullshit. All healthy and happy!!!
Watched them raise a barn on the tube, where does one sign up?
No TV = Heard immunity
False for the Amish part.
Amish almost never sell their land, except to other Amish, unless there is a major gain to be had from it, even then, hardly ever.
Think Gates will drive them into poverty? Wrong again. They are some of the more fiscally sound people in the world.
They dont typically use credit cards, buy everything with cash.
Use banks for dealing with the English, when they have to.
They make bank like crazy.
Proof: 20 years knowing them, 6 years of direct business dealings with them.
Edit: Indiana.
Good point.
I’ve been wondering when they will end the moratorium and snag up the rest they can grab that default.

Yep, I'll help them out anytime I can.
Thanks for telling us your personal experience.

First off, excuse my syntax. On the road and my phone.
So, an amish family targeted for 250k fine.
In Yoder, Kansas this fine would be absorbed by the community. When i lived in hutch there were i would guess 100 amish families in yoder.
This would mean to cover 250k fine, each family would pay 2,500.00.
For a land owning amish family, this is nothing.
They spend no money compared to the starbucks coffee in morning crowd.
They are frugal to the most extreme.
It is strange, though.
They really do not place value on currency, except to protect their way of life if under attack.
Does that make sense?
They have tons of money, but have no use for it because of the way they live.
But, attack them?
Yeah, the money comes out.
Why, traditionally they are/have never been target rich.
Hope this helps.
Cool. The more I learn the more I admire the Amish.
Furthermore, the amish are passive people and apolitical. They really just want to be left alone.
They are the absolute best neighbor you can have.
They do not want your poorly trained and raised son hanging out with their daughters, but can you blame them?
But, if you have a crisis, they will show up in droves and help out.
Love the Amish!
