I'd start with the ATF myself. Their general MO wouldn't even need to change, we're just having them do it against non-citizens rather than citizens.

Knowing the [nuclear] power on ONE single SSBN floating out somewhere in the ocean, waiting for The Signal.... is absolutely terrifying. The only consolation is in the most densely populated areas it would be over in milliseconds... for the Potato to be (in theory or appearance) in charge of that type of lethality, not even considering reciprocal effect or the fact we have a lot more than one of these boats, is just mind blowing... man I hope this is a movie...

They probably don't want people tracking lot numbers and correlating serious injury and death anymore.

I have ** NEVER ** seen (smelt) this in the midwest, been here for over 40 years.

I have smelled many fires (wood, BBQ, etc) and was a former electrician, so know what a burning transformer smells like... far closer to the latter here than the former.

Can confirm (Northern Illinois) that it smells like a house fire- some wood, but mixed with plastics- like an electrical transformer or something. If it is a forest fire, something else is in there, burning.

Maybe a traincar of vinyl chloride or something.

Can confirm a frequent problem, at least for another carrier . Except ours didn't happen from corrosion- the discharge of bilges with JP5 in it upstream of the intake of water for desalinization was ours. The fuel would make it through the distillers, into the potable tanks.

It was pretty damn obvious, though, when it happened, and we'd flush it out- it wasn't the most carcinogenic threat on the boat.

This is amazingly well stated. Post of the year.

Obligatory history : The Duffy Street Disaster

Like every great disaster [that isn't a planned FF] a series of screwups create the perfect storm.

ProTip: remember to get utilities marked before digging with heavy equipment

Can we get the bodycam footage where the good guys come in and drop this hideous creature? Maybe with the Steve Inman voice-over?

If you really ate a legit 100% charged battery in 20 min, your phone would have been hot as hell.

If it wasn't, then your battery is crap/flaky.

The worst spyware in the world still can't defy physics.

I've watched many videos supportive of the Pentagon being hit by a missile instead. Lets just call that "plausible" for the sake of argument.

The question then becomes: where /is/ the plane ? Did someone really manage to hijack a plane, fly it to an undisclosed location, murder everyone on board, dispose of their bodies without a trace, and then make the plane disappear even cleaner than MH370?

None of the pentagon videos address this.

For any pedes that think this is somehow past our capabilities... here's a book for you: Blind Mans Bluff (By Sherry Sontag and Chris Drew). When you are done with that one, read any of a number of books on the "disappearance" of the USS Scorpion.

Then remember, that's the stuff they couldn't cover up.

The colors indicate a P100... which is the ONLY mask that offers biological protection.

Unfortunately for xir, she never went through an industrial hygiene course that explains that viruses infect via mucous membranes... which include your eyes. You need a full-face respirator to not get viral contamination. That mask is for mold inhalation protection. It /may/ /reduce/ the chances of viral infection via lungs (unlike cloth masks, N95s, etc)
