While it’s true that someone has been ID’d as attempting to extort Gaetz’s father by offering access to a Presidential Pardon in exchange for a bribe, I can’t see anything suggesting this has invalidated the investigation into Gaetz’s alleged criminal behavior.
Gaetz is still under investigation, as far as I can tell. They just got someone who tried to extort him in the process.
I just don’t see why they’re saying it. They’ve provided no evidence that the investigation has been shut down. This is a story about a new charge filed against the blackmailer.
I cannot find anyone but OANN reporting that Gaetz is off the hook. And since OANN doesn’t back up that claim with even an anonymous source or something in this story, I suspect they are incorrect.
