The second movie seemed to have fallen into the trap of using all secondary places and characters as 'set pieces' to move the story along rather than some 'natural' discovery process from the main characters that led them down the path.
The third one tried too hard to fit Neo into the 'jesus' metaphor they were building to end the story.
Just based on the preview for this 4th film looks like they are just going to rehash some of the tropes they used to push the narrative (I caught the scene of melting the mouth of someone, which was genius in episode 1 to show Neo just how out of control he was of his circumstances, rehashing it is like a teenage thinking 'that was cool, lets do it again')
Honestly, I think the second movie tried to set up a sequel that could never be good enough to justify the second movie.
I enjoyed all three, and I remember being very excited for the third one based on the second one. And realizing after that despite being a little disappointed, I have no idea how a third movie could have ever delivered a satisfying end to that trilogy. They wrote themselves into a promise they could never realistically fulfill.
I am curious to see how a fourth one goes. A reboot probably would have been more justified if they were just looking to print money, but Keanu Reeves is a popular name right now, and I canβt blame them for trying to take advantage of it.
The first Matrix movie was genius.
The 2nd Matrix movie was bad, but had a few decent parts. The 3rd movie was so stupid it was unwatchable.
i have zero hopes for a 4th Matrix movie.
They have spiraled down to crap.
Agreed, the first movie was genius.
