Why wouldn't regular thermite be enough to destroy the building? Or even run-of-the-mill demolition explosives? Regular demolitions don't use thermite, after all.
Because under the microscope on the buildings they found it was nano aluminum residue from nano thermite. Only from our government can you get large quantities. Average consumer would be getting visit from FBI.
I'm no expert, but couldn't a high-speed collision between an aircraft made from aluminum and a building create aluminum dust, of varying particle sizes?
Also, if they used nano thermite wouldn't all of it have burned up? It wouldn't leave any residue unless it wasn't mixed correctly, which wouldn't be the case for government-issued stuff. Something just doesn't add up here.
