Yeh, Jung calls it the Shadow...the dark side of ego.

Everyone has this, but some are able to control it while others embrace it. Those that embrace, typically are the narcissists, tyrants, and similar assholes that have a major Dunning-Krueger thing going on.

His dad sounds like the embrace crowd.
