Mods, hope this is okay. Figured it might be a good idea for anons to grow their own food.
With shortages in stores and more likely coming, just thought I'd share this link on aquaponics. I plan to get my husband to buy a few IBC totes so we can get started. You can grow plants and raise fish for your family in a 45" x 45" space. The link is to an Australian site but is an excellent resource. I want a couple to grow bunches of vegetables in one and lots of fruit in the other. As long as we're investing the time, I'm buying heirloom seeds to get the most nutrition and no GMO's. You can purchase used totes. Of course, just use those that have carried food grade liquid.

Please share any information or links you have!
This a great idea. Am starting some aquaponics this very reason.
YAY - let us know tips and tricks and as you go through your journey.
Here’s a good site for ordering some fish, giant prawns or Australian red claws for a food source.

Even though I haven’t personally started up aquaponics yet, I have bought some giant prawns for an interesting exotic pet. They all arrived alive and healthy.
Thank-you for the link!
I sure do miss my salt water tank. It was pretty large and a central support across the top was getting loose so I had to give away my stock and empty the tank because the whole tank could have blown! Meanwhile, we became the grandparents 4x so my tank energy has been redirected. When they're older though, I'd like to get them involved in both the tanks and the aquaponics.
Hmmm, think I will get my husband to help me setup systems for our children and they can get their children to help. Knowing how to become self sustaining - at least food wise- is important for all of us. The kids already help Papa ( my husband) with his boxed gardens and they love weeding and picking vegetables. Our 8 year old grandson is the salad king!
Very cool!. I was think'n that was like writing for fish.
Works great for growing marijuana, too
Maybe I could distill my own THC drops, lol. Have to go through a doc to get them now. Should I change my name to Grace? If y'all have never seen the movie,* Saving Grace", watch it - hilarious!

Thank-you -this is a great link!
👍 :)
I grow all my fruits and vegetables hydroponically
Awesome! Before we learned all the crap about Disney, we'd go a couple of times a year and my favorite attraction was Living With the Land and the hydr/aqau ponics areas.
Aquaponics? Is that your actual foreign for "Watch the water"?
LMAO, no and I hope no ABC agency thinks it is.
aquaponics is difficult.....i would not recommend that is how one starts the adventure into hydroponics. Start with some dwc....keep it simple...kill some stuff when you make a mistake. I would consider using aquaponics the stage right before one tries to graduate to aeroponics. if it were me i would skip aquaponics all together....i understand the point and the fascination, but you don't understand the complications of such a thing until you have done the easy ones first.
My husband was a farmer for decades and I had a salt water aquarium for about 6 years, so we have a little experience. While I understand the difficulty, aquaponics is something I've studied since about 2012. The uncertainty we all face right now has encouraged me to give it a try. Luckily, it's not a super expensive experiment. Thanks for your advice though, it is appreciated.
Not sure since we live in south Louisiana BUT I'm thinking if you have a sunroom or patio, basically somewhere with a sunlight source and you're growing plants and fish native to your area, I don't see why not. If I was in your area, I would probably make or buy a strong platform with wheels so that I could bring the whole thing into either a house or garage if the temp dropped too much.
Really easy to grow most crops in 5gal 'reservoir' buckets too. Videos are on YT.
