I don't agree with his "hang out in the middle" comment though. I've never had any respect for anyone who hangs out in the middle just for middle's sake, just to virtue signal that they're not one or the other but "open-minded". Just the opposite. If you're hanging out in the middle then your mind is decidedly closed and the left still has at least one claw in you.

I think what he's saying is that we need to hear both sides and talk about it. It's the idea of bringing back debate about issues without rejecting the other person or expecting them to always come over to your beliefs. He's headed in the right direction, just give him some time.
