The UK doesn't have a real 'home schooling' ethic like you do in the US. It's pretty sketchy at best, so probably not something that would immediately spring to mind.
I'm pretty sure that these parents wanted to communicate something more volatile, but the law would then be at their door, not the people injecting their kids with poisons.

Kids burned schools down all the time in the 80's - what happened to that?
