You’re right. It’s going to get lost. You should repost somewhere else. I agree with your analysis on some basic health care. The problem is always corruption. Some asshole bureaucrat always finds someway to take our money and convert into their pocket in the name of good. How do we solve that problem. Maybe that nominal tax should just go into a HSA and be used by that individual only. And they can spend that health care money at any doctor or hospital.
Hmm, growing up I had learnt about the horrors of communism from my father's first hand experiences, but I did not see the link between socialism and totalitarianism at the time. I do remember being somewhat sympathetic towards socialism. I was like 14 at the time, I guess it was just a phase.
Nah... I think people of certain age groups have been indifferent for awhile. Realizing politicians were corrupt. Bernie appealed to a lot of people because he genuinely seemed like he was for the people. Socialism never would’ve happened. His appeal was being different. When the DNC chose Hilary, it woke a lot of people up. Then along cake Trump. He’s not your typical RINO, so people who were still looking for that something different interests got peaked. I’ve always wondered what would’ve happened if it was Bernie v Trump?
The thing about socialism is that it is good. The basic precepts are to take care of those that cannot take care of themselves. Widows, orphans, handicapped people should be cared for. Now one should starve because they cannot provide for themselves. That concept has been corrupted to coddle the lazy and stupid. That isn't socialism, that is power obtained through bribery. Our nation adopted some socialist ideas to care for those that couldn't care for themselves. This was and is a good thing. It staved off the ruthless robber barons of old and prevented the whole country from sliding into communism or full blown socialism. Any pure economic system has fatal flaws. Our combination of the systems is why we have had success. The problem is corruption and ignorance/stupidity. Logic, reason and humanity must be exercised properly to prevent the devolution of our system. We allowed the balance to be upset and now we stand on the brink of collapse. We have to rebalance the systems and purge the saboteurs.
I'm genuinely curious. Did you at one point think socialism was a good thing?

All of this!! Many saw right through the DNC’s playbook and switched sides. It’s why I think the walk away campaign took off the way it did
