Chinese Epoch Times just showed up on my wife’s iPhone. Does anyone know what this is? Spyware?

All chinese-made software is also spyware until proven otherwise. Might also happen if she is using a Xiaomi or Huawei phone.
Epoch Times is a decent news site from anti-CCP chinese people.
I am guessing that she might have been on the Epoch Times page and some sites give a popup to ask if you want to make a app bookmark for the site, or download an app and she might have clicked it accidentally. Unless of course, this might be a malware using the name of epoch times.
Self-installing apps should never be trusted. If she can, just delete and/or kill the damned thing. If she can't, maybe a visit to your provider is in order.
The Epoch Times is an accurate news source. They cover stories the MSM would never touch. The corruption is massive in this world and since the ET covers that hidden corruption, they are under attacks from the elites. Several of their publishing offices were burned down. Their carriers of the physical papers are assaulted. However, If you can subscribe, it will be a great asset because the EP peels back the curtain. As far as your phone, I would call the ET directly and ask them if this app is legit. You can always get a real person to speak with. Customer Service Hotline is (917) 905-2080.
One story that haunts me is the first person account by a guard detailing the story of the Uyghurs in China. I had heard the rumor but did not think it was true. They ARE actually being held as live organ donors for the wealthy. If a heart, lung, eye, kidney, etc is needed by the highest bidder, the elites can have it same day. It is described as an assembly line. This one article was a wake up call for me. The evil inside of China and our political and elite class is astounding. These people are sick!
If you can truly stomach the truth, subscribe to Epoch Times.
I would venture to guess she downloaded the wrong app from the app store
Just delete it
Apple has pretty good requirements for apps on their app store that don't allow them to straight up spy through their app... Unless she opened it and gave it permissions if it asks for it upon opening it.
If she's never opened the app.. theres no way it's doing any spying.
Delete it though, immediately =D
It’s an old non updated i6 and the app just appeared this morning
China makes the iPhones so they're putting the Chinese app on as well the entire phone is a spy app not just apps for newspapers.
Just a few years ago Apple was caught canoodling with the CIA and inserted a spy chip to spy on people without any Congressional authority or oversight. Then they were slowing the batteries down to ruin them and when they were caught only gave a $25 voucher for $100 battery.
So whatever shows up on your iPhones after being told is hilarious to me!
