This is a misleading article. It claims Tesla is owned by China, but inside the article it contradicts itself:

If Elon is the majority shareholder, how can China own it? China owns shares, that's not the same as owning the company.
There are lots on the list like that where there is a Chinese investment or the Chinese hold a certain amount of shares but not the majority. Definitely misleading.
It is not so much about owning the whole company. To wield influence in the company and demand deference to CCP mandates, they only need to scoop up enough. It is not uncommon that even a minority holder of a couple of % of the stock, can wield tremendous power.
Taking this as a guide, if we would divert our spending to US-1 companies, CCP would be bleeding chips.

Maybe, but the article didn't say that, it says Tencent owns Tesla. I checked and it only owned 5% back in 2017. Not sure what that figure is now.
