It's easy to see the simple economics of why production gets offshored, where they might pay certain wages here and much less wages abroad for certain products, this helps develop the other nation and drive down price of products for us
However, at the same time, we also become dependent on the other nations to produce these things, which can be a cost in itself - the same problem exists with technology and critiques of civilization in general, like you could say "fun fact: my feet didn't break down when my car did" about the dependence that technology can create versus simpler technologies or the lack of them
I suspect there are a number of companies reassessing their game plans based on this little factoid.
