Does one need to be prior military to join? (Husband was Army, so we are eligible if so.) Do you recommend NF? Is it based? I want to get out of our current bank, but want to do some research first.
Thanks!

I like NFCU bc when you call you get a human not 50 press this option for...
Thank you!! I look forward to changing things over. I'm not working, so it's my job to save us some money.
I finally escaped my bank - had everything with them for YEARS - only thing left is the mortgage and working on a refi now.
Took my $$ to USAA and a local credit union, I feel so much better now, I am sure you will too!
We are working on a refi on our house and that should help a bit. I want to change everything else over that I can. Maybe NF can refi his truck. That would help too!
The rates at my credit union are even better than USAAs.
It wasn't as painful as I imagined it would be either - good luck! 🍀
Satisfied customer - if you have kids make sure you sign them up when you sign up. As dependents they reap the benefits too.
Thanks!! We will definitely start a savings account for our son.
I don't know if they're based or but. They never fucked with me or my wife. Pretty sure they're open to everyone now...used to be a LOT of rules about membership. For example Marines could only join while STATIONED at Parris Island, which includes boot camp so Marines would rush over on Family day (2 hour visit w family day before graduation) to open an account
If I'm not mistaken, I think any branch of the military can use NFCU now.
I believe ANYONE can now.
I just went to NFCU.org:
Am I Eligible? Our field of membership is open to the armed forces, the DoD, veterans and their families.
That's stringent!
We used to use it years ago, but not anymore. I may check into them again and see if they're at least competitive with our current insurance. Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks again! I think, if the quote is correct, we will save a few bucks a month on our car insurance. It adds up!
USAA is a bank. You will get better interest rates with NFCU, being that it's a credit union. NFCU is great in that you can do virtually everything you want to do online. For those things you can't do online, you can do it over the phone. You don't need to be near a brick-and-mortar location, either. They have a wide network of ATMs that you can use, no fee.
Have done business for years with both USAA and NFCU. You can't go wrong with either one of them. They both have great customer service.
