Somewhere I read that the surcharge is $100/ day, + $100 each additional day. So day 1 = $100, day 2 = $200, day 3 = $300 etc. Could get pretty pricey.
I don't think it'll drive up hyperinflation. The lack of supply will already do this.
I think it will convince shippers to avoid Los Angeles port and start considering other ports. You'll probably see an economic impact on L.A. county and California overall. Would not be surprised if California economy heads into a recession shortly following this move.
Eventually it will be cheaper to send in illegal trucks and pay the fine.
I wonder if they would even write somebody up at this point. The shipping backlog is embarrassing. Maybe more embarrassing than ignoring their stupid rules.
Speaking of Mexico, why don't they swap out smuggling the fentanyl for Ivermectin for the next month - probably a bigger demand for that instead of the other right now. It's not being restocked in any of the stores right now.
Who exactly pays the fines and who gets the fine money? Are the carriers the Trucking companies or the individual businesses? Sorry, I couldnt really tell from the article and I really dont understand why all the containers got so backed up.
I imported 20 boxes of isopropyl wipes from China for work. I lagged on the paperwork and couldn't get a check wrote for the port fees from the boss before he went on vacation so we ended up paying $40 a day in port fees. 3 weeks worth of port fees hurt. Port was Oakland.
Edit:
I don't think it would be per container but rather per shipment. If a container has 20 pallets going to 20 different companies them each company would be liable. At least that's how it was in my case.
DeSantis told them FL is open. It would have been cheaper to do that than holding on to shipments. Can't say I feel even a little bit sorry for the companies that own the ships.
I don't think anyone who knows what is actually happening is assigning blame to the carriers or the ports. It is interesting to see what is happening, because this all falls to the signing of E.O.#13848.
We are not doing business with countries determined to aid in the election fraud (CHINA), so that is why the cargo ships sit there, that is why there is a microchip shortage, and "everything" shortage. We are punishing China (they need our cash for their export economy to function). It is a war of attrition. We need their stuff, but they REALLY NEED our cash.
So, it will be interesting to watch where all these containers end up.

Everything is frozen. If it is a container or a ship that came from a country that was determined to have aided the election fraud, it is NOT going to move. The ship could leave, but they can't get fuel from us. No Sale.
Everything is in limbo. There is no "wishing it were true." It is true. Plenty of documentation on it, and you can read it here:
I have taken the time to read 13848, (twice, slowly - legalese!) and it is true. Want proof that Patriots are in control? Biden signed the extension to 13848, lol! He would never do that if he had a choice... sign to extend 13848 - a Trump E.O. about election fraud consequences!? All the proof in the world right there.
Agreed. When I saw PoopyPants extend EO on Election Interference for another year in September, that was all I needed to know that Biden is a puppet for President Trump.
An analogy to this is reading spoiler alerts of a movie and now have to endure watching it all the way to the end.
So let me get this straight, Biden/policies started this mess now, here comes more Biden policies to totally take out the shipping ports by adding fees, Boy is it going to get painful. I am already seeing over the last few weeks a substantial decline in the amount of trucks on Interstate I-70 like est. 40-60% Dark Winter is coming.
Who pays?
In the end we all do.
Except the illegals they get an extra bonus 450k.!
I read it is $100 per container on the first day; $200 on the second day; $300 on the third day, and so on...
Holy shit if true
Florida is open for business. Let everyone you know even your third cousins!

Wow, this is going to drive the hyperinflation...
oh yes!
Makes you wonder why they aren't hustling ....

Oh nm. Saw the other comments about how the cost could pass onto consumers.
That'll be the only thing driving. Calif has already shut out independent drivers from getting any of the business.
How does that add up to 17?
SirRupert asking the real questions
Th.k you! About time I got recognized for my Sage real question asking.
after CA bans all those trucks from entering the ports....
Eventually it will be cheaper to send in illegal trucks and pay the fine.
I wonder if they would even write somebody up at this point. The shipping backlog is embarrassing. Maybe more embarrassing than ignoring their stupid rules.
Oh they will gladly write you up. Cops get a fucking hard on for commercial trucks.
Leagle Mexican trucks will show up to pull that low paying garbage freight

$6 million dollar a day fine if they don't.
(60,000 x $100)

Probably us taxpayers
Lol
BRB can only use three year old trucks
BRB back up at ports
BRB gonna fine you for the back up.

If ships start moving we will see if this true!
Charge the Brandon administration and Illegal aliens
How is it their fault they can’t unload?

Very interesting!
Global Financial Warfare.
"How about a game of chess?"
Hmmm.wonder why it only applies to cali ports couse chinas unloading at other ports.almost like it's not in force
Do you have a source for this information?
I would be interested to see and learn more.
I wish this were true, but why aren’t the containers moving? Why is Seattle backed up too?
