It's been discussed as having something to do with the Geneva Convention rules of war and something to do with foreign occupation in unconventional warfare.

Don't quote me on it; I don't datefag and as a result only followed the threads with a few dendrites. The evidence seemed fairly compelling, as far as datefagging goes...

Pretty much a swag. That said, it's a year and a day. I think I recall Magic Eyes referencing Law of War having some triggers at 1 year.
