I feel like I've seen most of this list elsewhere in one form or another, not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but original it is not.
That being said,

interests of the people. Even many who are vocal critics
of the government.
Is only true because most people believe that

intentions (this is good)
The reality is most people are inherently self-serving. While they may do what's right in the public eye, their ultimate loyalty is to themselves and/or their immediate circle of family and friends. And since governments are staffed with people and not sentient angels...corruption is a thing.
