I think your question suggests that I am aware of what my neighbors have gone through. I am not, mostly. When I was younger I did have a neighbor that was sexually assaulted by her step dad for years. So yes, I guess that I am suggesting different levels of abuse. If everyone were subjected to the same experimentation we would expect to see a lot more of the aftermath matching that of others and could, likely, easily assume the reason behind it.
