Learned a lot about evil, sold my china import business, sold everything I own, haven't had a paying job in 3 years, moved further from grid. Into farming now. Never closer to Jesus.

I am guessing the answer is Money. For a lot of us city dwellers we simply don't have the capital to pack it up, buy land, and live IRL Harvest Moon. the selling of his business and consumer goods probably afforded him the shot at making the move
