In the UK the country of manufacture is clearly stated, guess there is a different system in the US so thought this worth posting. Glad to be of help :)
« While the first three digits do not signify what country the product was manufactured in, they do indicate the country in which the company is based. This means, the company is headquartered, or has an office in that location, but the product could have been made in another country. Since a company has to apply for a GS1 prefix, they simply state where they are located to receive their prefix, and can choose to manufacture their product anywhere in the world.

I try to do this with everything I buy, but it's frustrating cause 8o% of what's on the shelves is made in chyna. If it's something that I really need, I have to buy it. If it's something that I would like, I put it back. Come on America, let's get back to being
#1 in manufacturing again.
china has had an effective campaign of pushing the "green" movement in the USA... paying off politicians which push through mandates that prohibit manufacturing in the US.....and infecting our educational institutions... they pushed the global warming hoax... they drove our manufacturing base right over to china.... much of the land-fill grade merchandize that comes from china is pure shit and is made by slaves. if you have stuff in your house that is "made in china" you're part of the problem. don't buy shit from them!!
what can possibly be needed, actually needed, that can't be sourced from the u.s.? or fair trade countries? i genuinely would like to know. let's overcome it or go into business.
Not sure but I think China is shipping to other countries and then being shipped to the USA, not sure if that procedure changes the bar code sequence when shipped from another country via USA?
"North America". I look for US, Canada, Mexico. Seafood and wines I include South America. Cars and electronics, include Korea and Japan. Matryoshka dolls and vodka from Russia, Some purchases are from Vietnam and India. I recon I have little problem with most countries...then there is chyna
This summer I was poking around and found this US company that makes the very best silverware in PA. The Only U S manufacturer of silverware. They sell direct. The site states they get their raw materials from US also. Bought sets for me and daughter for Christmas. FYI not associated with them just impressed with product.
i did not know that. ty

in the u.s. the deceivers will hide country of origin by saying "distributed by"
Did you know every barcode is coded with 666?

I didn’t either! This is very handy.
It’s not this simple.

Not sure about this.
This tumbler in front of me has a bar code that starts 933
It's distributed by Target (US company). The brand is "Vineyard Vines" (US company). Martha's Vineyard, MA.
Made in china of course.
Read the website page in its entirety. NCSWIC
So it's meaningless it seems. They can put anything they wish as long as they have a shell company in said country.
https://www.barcode-us.info/upc-codes/ Nice graphic but GTIN numbers and UPCs used to be simpler but not so much now.

what would be handy is a legend, like used in maps or the dewey decimal system
Not sure but I think China is shipping to other countries and then being shipped to the USA, not sure if that procedure changes the bar code sequence when shipped from another country via USA?
This is NOT CORRECT
I checked some items around the house, and this didn't work.
Then I did some research...
UPC prefixes (at best) only show the country the company is based in, not the country of manufacture.
I picked up a tumbler here at work. First three are 933. "Made in china"
Not sure how accurate this is.
It's Vineyard Vines brand dist by Target.
"North America". I look for US, Canada, Mexico. Seafood and wines I include South America. Cars and electronics, include Korea and Japan. Matryoshka dolls and vodka from Russia, Some purchases are from Vietnam and India. I recon I have little problem with most countries...then there is chyna
If the item is imported, labeled and distributed it will have the distributors barcode so there is no real truth to this.
I just look for what country it was made in. Pretty simple.
