I don't watch nearly as much as I used to but when I do, its an oldie - they are the best. Good plots, characters, acting and no agendas being pushed. Started reading more and its the same: new books don't hold my interest for long, I've gone back to old and modern classics. There is a good reason why they have survived and are still selling.
Years ago - its brilliant. There's probably a dvd for sale somewhere. My all time favourite is The Crimson Pirate with Burt Lancaster, its a hoot. Proper swashbuckling! Early Hitchcock are good too. The Marx Bros, Ealing comedies - so many!
Its got everything: adventure, romance, dastardly villain, comedy, action and Burt's awesome smile. And no, he wasn't gay; he and Nick Cravat grew up together and learnt acrobatics as a way to get into showbiz. A good family man, hated and avoided the Pedowood studios. Did so many great films, seen Local Hero? Its very good.
Yeah I hit up putlocker here in Korea, but generally stick to the 80s and 90s movies, most new stuff I just can't get through.
Oh man, you're talking to a dude who grew up on southern food and taco bell :P So eating here is some what of a struggle.
But 100% they eat dried squid, my wife loves it, when you go into the convenience store, where the Jack Links and Slim Jims would be in the USA, there is just a rack of dried sea food, they love it. I've never tried it, not a big fish person :P
The friend chicken is amazing here the grilled meats are great too, but we can't go out to eat anymore cause of the vaccine passport, so meh whatever.
As far as cooking tips, I have none :P I basically learned how to make all my favorite American foods here... hahaha :P
My step mom was Korean (RIP). Dried squid is really a thing. It’s sticky, sweet, slightly fishy & delicious. Here in the states you can find it at Korean & sometimes oriental markets. Bulgogi & japchae are the only “recipes” I’ve learned to make. They’re loose recipes, as in I know the ingredients but have no measurements. It’s all by personal taste lol.
The glass noodles are definitely an odd texture. Very stretchy. I cook them up, slice up my beef & get it marinating in soy, sesame oil, garlic, rice wine, pepper flakes, a pinch of sugar & I like ginger. Then I slice up mushrooms, carrot, green onion & white onion. I get my wok hot & veggies going in a little sesame oil. Get them out while still slightly firm & then cook up my beef in the wok. When the beef is ready I add everything together. That’s my take on it. My husband says it’s quite similar to some we get at a Korean market so I’m good lol. When it comes to kimchee my only concern might be getting it dry enough to roll up in the kimbap & still keeping the flavor. If you think to, let me know how it turns out. I wish I could get a good recipe for kimchee. Mines never quite right.
I do like heat from actual pepper flake. Gochujang is really good & adds extra flavor but I haven’t used it in japchae. I don’t have any experience with tteobokki.
