Could be original was made by a innocent programing team and once it went to Nintendo they prob have a large say as to what to put in things. And ptb does their thing? All the hidden things in front of us for years and we are just now awakening to them. Or is nothing at all.
Perhaps. I am simply not a co-signer on something that happens once when all other versions don't speak of it at all.
Now if others stated something at the time similar, would be notable to me. Otherwise, it was likely a localization team trying to make their version sound better. Which happens a lot in games.
You know what page? I have the archived manual.

First page, directly under instruction manual. Only a very small reference but thats where people are seeing that date from I think
Interesting, as the PC manual of the first release states no such things. Wonder who did the manuals of each.
Very first page?
I was looking on the inside, completely dismissed the cover.
Which brings the question; Why only the SNES manual states this and not the original, or preceding releases within that timeframe?
