They're not naive.

They're liars who think there is something in this for them.

But they don't realize that the lessons of history teach that they, the worker bees, are always first in line to the firing squads because they are the ones who know first hand how a government is overthrown. And they are the greatest danger to the new status quo.

Well scratch that. I guess they actually are naive. But first and foremost liars.
