I listen to free library audiobooks on the libby app. Right now I'm halfway thru Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover. I borrow fiction, too. I also listen to some podcasts and educational youtube channels. (John Taylor Gatto FTW.) I buy local bands' music on bandcamp sometimes.
Much of my own personal great awakening has been a realization that 90%+ of the music i used to love is written by devil worshippers. I want to break any support to that. And I'd rather spend commuting time learning or being inspired by new ideas and good stories. I used to consume a lot of music entertainment, now I see it as a waste of time, potentially harmful.
I also noticed that my taste in music changed. I used to listen to it all the time, and buy new CDs a few times per month.
Then I woke up one day and new music was just awful. I still listen to some of my old stuff here and there - if for nothing else than the nostalgia. But I have shifted completely to old music. Like Big Band old music, sprinkling in some 60s/70s singer/songwriter stuff, and country from that era.
Why? I guess it is because new music got poisoned just like new movies and new tv.
Old music is much better! They had to work for everything. It wasn’t handed to them. Just like old school Nascar racing. Those guys came up dirt poor from nothing. It’s probably the same with any talent today they have money thrown at their feet.
Look at Elvis Presley and those guys that came through Sun Records they didn’t have labels passing out money.
And use what as an alternative?
Thepiratebay
This is the way.
Or RARBG.
Or KAT....... or......
Start your own music collection, put it on a thumb drive, and take it wherever you go.
Seriously, used CDs are $1-2 on ebay or Goodwill.
Added bonus: you don't have to deal with a music provider "removing" an artist from your playlist bc of a contract dispute.
Here's the why, for me. https://www.rt.com/news/513966-spotify-monitor-emotions-patent-creepy/
