For once I'd like to see the Dems nominate a candidate that backfires on them and becomes the next Clarence Thomas.

Justice Clarence Thomas was certainly not a backfire. He had a rocky confirmation road (thanks in part to someone called something like "Cho Bai Den") but he has been a rock-solid Conservative for Americans.

What I’m saying is, I’d like for them to nominate a Sotomayer and get a Thomas. This seems to happen in reverse to a lot of GOP nominees.

Yeah, lots of nominees went more liberal after confirmation. Very few (any?) trended more Conservative over time. I'd love for that trend to reverse...
