A lot of big dark money groups on the left have been trying to force Breyer to retire. Looks like they finally got their way.
As far as the court itself is concerned, it does not appear to gain them any advantage. However, as discussed elsewhere, it could be both a distraction from the disaster that is the Democrat Party and to facilitate the movement of chess pieces.
A 4-4 split favoring the Left for appeals making it to SCOTUS, lets the prior decision stand. Their way of stacking the courts for cases in the pipeline perhaps? The Trump Trio have been constitutional duds, so a 4-4 is plausable
Remember, we're not gaining a lib. The court would actually be down a lib during such time for less liberal advantage than they have now.
Horowitz, apparently is friends with Breyer, he said Breyer has been wanting to retire for some time, did not want to “retire” under Trump and allow President Trump another pick.
Why? He’s a liberal judge isn’t he?
I assume it’s to avoid what happened with Ginsburg.
You mean to secure a dem nom before the midterm red wave?
Well RBG could have retired during Obama's 2nd term, didn't, and was replaced by Trump. Democrats know they're losing the Senate in November so they need to replace Breyer before that. I saw something on Twitter earlier that he didn't intend to announce his retirement this soon, with the implication that he was forced into it by these dark money groups.
