My dad grew up in a catholic family in the Netherlands. He was 8 years old when the Nazis rolled in. His older brothers had to live under the floorboards for a few years to avoid being nabbed by the Nazis. The whole family, and the whole country, virtually starved for one or two years, because the Nazi regime stole all the food from the Netherlands.
The real stories are endless, and horrific. My dad lived with trauma his whole life, and the impacts on my generation are substantial and real.
People who do the defend AH thing are at best armchair philosophers who have no direct knowledge or experience, and at a minimum conscious or unconscious consensus crackers.
