We live west of there and don't usually hear a lot of planes flying over. Last night it was one plane after another after another after another for maybe an hour or so. I mean one plane would pass over and immediately we'd hear another plane. I heard one plane that sounded like a prop but most sounded like jets.
A little info on Manassas Airport. It's small but can handle corporate jets and has more takeoffs and landings than Dulles because it handles so many smaller planes. It's about 11-12 miles from Dulles. It was founded by a couple of WWII pilots who flew the Hump.
Agree - the skies have been full over the past few days - military and civilian...and that's saying something when we're used to Dulles flight pattern over us and the normal patterns of Manassas airport...
We get some flights from Dulles and Winchester and Manassas but nothing like what we heard last night. I've never heard that.
We're used to the "plane every four minutes" pattern that Dulles has :)
We're too far away for that. And usually by the time they fly over here, they're so high in the sky we hear little or nothing.
Not to do with flights, but the railways last Sunday in southern Indiana were OFF THE CHAIN with military vehicles, equipment. I snatched a short clip and my husband said medical transport vehicles and refueling vehicles. But this train load was every bit of a couple miles long with many more types of equipment. Looking at the rail map it would go to just south of Indianapolis close to the Crane Naval Base which has also been a recent drop off point for Afghan refugees.
Maybe they're giving those Afghans a few billion more in free military equipment.

Flight pattern is tight lines back and forth over Quantico. Just landed in Manassas. Manassas airport has all kinds of "interesting" flights.

I lived until very recently near the top of the survey. That isn’t a mil aircraft and is too small to carry large sensor equipment. Those planes are up often and run radiator patterns with survey cameras for aerial surveys. Most likely for PWC.
Thanks. I'd rather it be that than for something else.
I tracked a RC-12X Guardrail running a pattern from top of MoCo down to bottom of Fairfax in a similar pattern once. That’s what you wanna BOLO for. Went right over my house. Caught on visual too.
The pattern looks like it's taking aerial photos.
Similar flight pattern, different aircraft, based out of Manassas, lines over Charlottesville.

It could be nothing - just curious.
Did you say "Thing"?
What’s the activity out of DAA like?
More info on the interesting flights out of Manassas. Not sure if the program mentioned in the article is still going on or were connected to the ones yesterday.

Yesterday also had a DOJ helicopter take off from Manassas, fly down to the Rappahannock river, follow the river north for a bit, then stop broadcasting mid-flight.
