I like Bing Crosby's work, but I think he helped destroy good music. He was a very "intimate" singer, meaning quiet singing but close to the mic, so it felt like he was singing to you specifically. This really in my mind, paved the way for the singer's ability to overcome the quality of the music behind it. Mind you it took probably over 60 years for that degredation to really hit, and not all genres hit evenly. I have an old Psalter Hymnal. In it, it states the requirements chosen for the songs the hymnal collabrators chose. The music should be beautiful, it should not depend on the lyrics to hold it together, likewise the words shall be beautiful, not depending on the music to bear it up. They must both be beautiful and encompass Biblical truths. I loved singing the hymns from that hymnal. I will say some songs they picked... I disagree with their statement, a few did not deserve to make the cut. I digress. Music has been sucking for a hot minute, and modern day crap, don't get me started. 32 years old for reference.

I haven't thought about Greenday in years tbh. It just clicked in my head for some reason, I read the lyrics and was like wow, ok. I figured it was going to either be based AF if they went after fake media or the dumbest thing if they attacked real journalism, as I read then remembered later the rest of the lyrics, I thought, yup, they went full retard. I forgot most of the song's lyrics until I read them today.
