Do they want to die or get maimed? Cause that's how you die or get maimed. Years ago I lost a friend who had a split rim wheel from a logging truck separate on him while he was working on it. The ring caught him just above the eyebrows and took the top of his head off. He had a wheel cage in his shop but unfortunately he was in a hurry and didn't use it.
Thanks. This was many years ago back in the early 1980s. I don't think split rims are very common in the US anymore. I've read they are still fairly common in Europe.

Sorry about your friend. Split rims are horrifying! Can't believe they still use them!

When liveleak was still a website, there were new videos of split rim tires killing people every week, from around the world.
They use them for intermodel (shipping.container trailers)
Similar, friend had a hand tore up. Tire/rim was laying on shop floor. Ring went on through the shop roof.
Worked in that industry. Most techs won't work on split rims anymore. They're that bad.
