I used to follow LoS back when Mark Vann played banjo. THOSE…were the golden years. He was amazing & I met him & Drew Emmitt once in Cardboro NC. Drew signed my F5 mandolin. 👍🏽 I’m familiar with Great American Taxi but haven’t seen em. Might go to DelFest and/or Peach Festival but I’m getting a bit old for all that. I’m tight with Umphrey’s McGee used to go camping with those guys; before they made it big. 😎

No, afraid not. Although my music tastes are “liberal”, I’ve been Conservative my whole life and can’t deal with liberals. Like, anywhere.
I always considered the GD to be more “outlaw” than liberal. I dunno. One of the things I always thought was so cool about Phish is that as a brand, they were strictly non political as a rule, as politics are by nature divisive and their whole thing was creating a universally transcendent experience for both fans and band. Though I think that has changed somewhat over the past few years. Like you said, something’s missing now anyway. The whole “love and light” deal, which used to feel organic and authentic has now been twisted into endless woke virtue signaling with a hippie costume on.
I’m lovin what yer throwin-down. At a few big Phish shows…Alpine Valley comes to mind, fans flipped over cop cars. Coulda gotten ugly. Cops shouldn’t have been on the farm lot anyway but. Agree on the “outlaw” view, I think you nailed it. By not going commercial they made a big statement & they kept their freedom of creativity. The late 80’s & 90’s before Jerry past felt more dark to me tho. (Just my view). The 70’s & early 80’s shined music-wise…60’s too. Here’s a killer archive I just got turned-on to;
