I could easily and very happily live the rest of my life off $837k US and I'm not 40 yet.
You can always count on liberal governments to find the most efficient way to flush the most money possible down the toilet at the expense of hard working people. Spending money that doesn't exist is about the only thing they actually do competently.
Where is the audit to back this up. You can bet this money is in politicians’ pockets not housing individuals. Even with a motel discount of $100/room plus food, it would not cost $837,000.
Likely goes to pay the salaries of all the useless government employees supposedly working to help the homeless, along with a big chunk going to companies under contract AKA government kickbacks.
And, 10% of those contracts goes back to "the big guy" in the form of political donations, no doubt.
It is both used to house them and line their pockets.
Example: Buy 40000 sq foot warehouse, portion into 100 sqft plots, move homeless into this "shelter" with their tents, charge city $4000 a month per space.
Don't forget that is tax free.
You can make more money giving these homeless free showers, haircuts, food, temporary housing, etc. Compared to just fixing the problem. Instead we encourage homeless. (Thank you ACLU)
Not so fun fact, all of my classmates from my graduating class in LA county are either homeless or still in school or both. (Been over 10 years since graduation now) Homelessness is big business in CA and the homeless are willing to do it. Including myself, completely eliminated 2100+ in rent and got paid well for it. See for yourself, go on Snapchat geo stories, Google street view, etc, look at the cars parked in front of homeless tents on some streets compared to the cars parked across the street owned by actual working families. Since when do homeless people drive Mercedes and BMWs.
It's going to take a lot to deprogram California. This goes back to Reagan shutting down the mental hospital days.
Right, I don't believe that. I think it's money laundering plain and simple. They do it everywhere. All of our governments are corrupt, local, state, federal.
The budget for building 54 units with shipping containers (3 per unit) is 34 million with an additional 12 million for soft expenses. Soooo, 46 million dollars for 54 units for homeless expenses.

Me too! My retirement plan is $300,000 in house paid off and $100,000 in cash plus investments. I’m almost there and I’m 39
Back in my day it was called grifting
It still it.
Who was the “homeless” guy Gavin Newsom?

Would be cheaper to buy them someplace. Oh wait...
All the marijuana tax money vanishes also

I am guessing the official reason is "inflation" ?

Yup. That’s why the homeless problem won’t be solved either. Why would they stop the cash cow.

These building projects are in on the money laundering. The companies that win those contracts are owned by the families of some officials.
They could build a two to three story apartment complex for the homeless for that price.
If they didn’t have corrupt bidding to their homies.
THE RENT IS TOO DAMNED HIGH!
The homeless infusion complex is very real.
