The best (i.e. most believable) explanation I have heard so far:
"Z", "V","O" hastily painted to the vehicles indicate from which side of the ukraine the unit has entered from russia, example "V" is "Vostok"....Eastward...the direction the particular unit marked with that marking entered ukraine from.
By that same logic, the 'Z' would mean Zapad, or West. I can't figure out which Russian word O might represent. My one friend who speak Russian says Russians would never use Latin letters on their military vehicles unless it was for participating in international wargames. How confident are we these videos are actually of the current invasion?
What’s the Z for?
To distinguish their vehicles from those of other military forces. Look up "Operation Z" for further explanations.
No one knows for sure.
Could be friendly fire prevention, could mean something specific - let me know if you find out :)
Some MSM sites are mentioning it could mean 'point of no return' - not sure how they came to that conclusion but that's all I could find for now.
